Frank’d Hotdogs – frankly delicious!

I NEVER ate a hotdog I didn’t like and  with names like Wilfred, Scooby Doo and Brian I knew I’d be in for a real treat at Frank’d Hotdogs in Northbridge.

While the humble hotdog has been around for years, gourmet hotdogs are the food trend de jour and places are popping up everywhere serving delicious wieners in a bun so when I stumbled upon this find by accident, I couldn’t wait to see what these guys were doing.

Priding themselves on providing great food choices to the public while creating a festive and relaxed atmosphere, Frank’d hit the nail on the head.

As soon as you walk through the door, a sign encouraging diners to enjoy bottomless soft drink while you wait is as welcoming as the staff waiting to serve.

While I’m not encouraging you to drink the sugary stuff until your teeth fall out, who doesn’t like a freebie occasionally.

For the record, I had the soda water, also free.

As for the food, every dog type you can think of has been covered – dingo – tick, German Sheppard – tick, heck there was even a vegetarian “slum dog” on the menu.

For me a hot dog has got to have all the right ingredients – nice bun(s), good quality sausage and a splash of condiment.

So when I tried Scooby Doo, Bratwurst, melted Cheddar, brie and parmesan cheese ($14) I felt it was missing a little something, something – the condiment.

I love cheese and this hotdog had the trifecta of cheeses, it just in my opinion needed a squirt of tomato sauce just to balance out the flavours.

The Brian (a nod to the popular Family Guy character) on the other hand, grilled pepperoni, tomato salsa, cheese ($15), had all my favourite things in the softest of buns and was probably the favourite out of the two.

If you still feel thirsty and the soft drink isn’t cutting it, Frank’d also do milkshakes, fresh juices and spiked drinks from neighbours Frisk Bar.

And while I was too full for the loaded fries (also on the menu), I’ll be back to try at least one of the seven different options available because quite frankly, they looked truly delicious.
